Trump endorsement: He would have the “guts” to use nuclear weapons again

Yesterday legendary former basketball coach Bobby Knight delivered his endorsement of Donald Trump for U.S. president to an adoring crowd in Indiana.

Among other reasons for his endorsement, Knight explained that Trump is uniquely qualified to be commander-in-chief because he would be willing to use nuclear weapons.

He said:

“Harry Truman, with what he did in dropping and having the guts to drop the bomb in 1944 [sic], saved billions [sic] of American lives. And that’s what Harry Truman did and he became of one of the three great presidents of the United States. And here’s a man who would do the same thing because he’s going to become one of the four great presidents of the United States.”

No, seriously. Bobby Knight is glad that Donald Trump would be willing to use nuclear weapons again. To be clear: The use of just one nuclear weapon would create a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe of huge proportions. The ability to completely annihilate entire populations does not make us safer or more secure, and certainly does not make a great president.

This is not something Bobby Knight should be excited about.
