The world faces a series of urgent threats that put at risk the ongoing quality of life on the planet. Climate change, pandemics, nuclear proliferation, water scarcity, Middle East conflict – all are truly global challenges.  Furthermore, these are only the tip of the iceberg of problems to come. We need to support groups that are positioned to make a real difference – ambitious undertakings like the Global Zero initiative – to help mankind survive into the future.

Jeffrey Skoll, a founding President of the American auction website eBay, is Chairman of Participant Media and the Skoll Foundation. In 1999, he created the Skoll Foundation, which takes an entrepreneurial approach to philanthropy by investing in, connecting and celebrating the world's most promising social entrepreneurs in order to effect lasting, positive social change worldwide. In 2004, Skoll founded Participant Productions (now Participant Media), a global media company that produces entertainment to inspire and compel social change.
