The threat to humanity from nuclear weapons far exceeds the advantage any country could draw from their possession. Moreover, the political and strategic advantage of nuclear weapons could be offset if the non-proliferation regime unravels due to lack of success in disarmament. There are serious fears of nuclear technology and weapons falling into the hands of terrorists with catastrophic consequences. Nuclear weapons have not provided security to any country, despite claims to the contrary.

Lt. General Talat Masood served in the Pakistan Army for thirty-nine years and retired as the Secretary of Defense Production in the Ministry of Defense. Since retirement, he has worked actively with think tanks and universities, writing on security and political issues and appearing on international media networks. Masood has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in defense and strategic studies.
