I have been fighting against nuclear weapons from the early eighties on.  I was active in the peace movement against Pershing II and Cruise Missiles.  When I was elected to the Deutsche Bundestag in 1990, I started working on arms control with the main interest in the reduction of nuclear weapons.  In 1995 and 2000 we were optimistic of achieving the goal of complete nuclear disarmament.  Since then things have gone wrong and it is high time for massive action of people. That’s why I support the Global Zero campaign for total abolition.

As a member of the German Bundestag, Uta Zapf has shown interest in arms control and nonproliferation in many ways.  She currently serves as Chairwoman of the Sub-Committee on Disarmament, Arms Control, and Nonproliferation and is Co-President of the "Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament."  She specializes in disarmament, security policy, arms control, crisis prevention and Southeastern Europe.  After studying literature, she became a teacher in adult education and is also a freelance editor.
