Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda was the 91st Prime Minister of Japan, serving from 2007-2008. Prior to this position, he served as Chief Cabinet Secretary under two Prime Ministers (2000-2004). Prime Minister Fukuda first appeared in Japan’s political sphere in 1990, after being elected to a House of Representatives seat. He rose to the position of Deputy Director for Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party before becoming the Prime Minister of Japan following Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s resignation in 2007.  During his term as Prime Minister, Japan successfully hosted the G8 conference, and he worked hard to establish and maintain friendly foreign relations.
