Des Browne

The Right Honourable Des Browne is a Member of the British Parliament. Mr. Browne has served as Secretary of State for Defence and Secretary of State for Scotland until 2008 and was appointed by Prime Minister Gordon Brown as the government's special envoy to Sri Lanka in 2009. Previously, he was Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Minister of State for Immigration, Minister of State at the Department of Work and Pensions, and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Northern Ireland Office. During his concurrent tenure as Secretary of State for Defence and for Scotland, Mr. Browne was also a Member of the Privy Council.
