Dr. Sergei Karaganov is a Russian political scientist and intellectual currently serving as dean of the School of World Economics and International Relations at the National Research University Higher School of Economics. He is the honorary chairman of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy. Karaganov graduated from Moscow State University and received his doctorate from the Institute for the U.S. and Canadian Studies. He has written and edited more than 20 books and hundreds of articles on foreign policy and national security issues.

Gen. (ret.) Jehangir Karamat

General Jehangir Karamat is a retired Pakistani military officer and diplomat. He served in combat in the 1965 and 1971 India-Pakistan wars and eventually rose to the position of chairman of the Pakistani Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee before retiring from the armed forces.

Karamat was the Pakistani ambassador to the United States from November 2004 to June 2006. After this ambassadorship, he founded a sociopolitical policy and analysis institute, Spearhead Research, which focuses on social, economic, military and political issues connected to Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also served as a commissioner on the International Commission on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament from 2009 to 2010.

Karamat is a member of the Nuclear Crisis Group, the Global Zero Commission on Nuclear Risk Reduction and the Global Zero Commission.

Foreign Min. Khurshid Kasuri

Minister Khurshid Kasuri joined the political and strategy committee for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf after leaving his position as chairman of the steering committee of the Pakistan Muslim League in 2011. He served as foreign minister of Pakistan from 2002 to 2007. Prior to his appointment as foreign minister, he was chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on media. Between 1988 and 2000, Kasuri served as the prime minister’s special envoy to Russia, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and the European Union and represented Pakistan as a member of Pakistan parliamentary delegations. Throughout his career, Kasuri has taken an active interest in various political movements for the restoration of democracy in Pakistan.

Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi is a distinguished fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute and professor at the Meiki Institute for Global Affairs in Tokyo. Previously, she was a member of the House of Councillors of Japan where she chaired the Standing Committee on Environment. From 2002 to 2004, she served as the minister for foreign affairs of Japan. She has also held the positions of special advisor to the prime minister of foreign affairs and minister of the environment. From 2008 to 2010, she served as co-chair of the International Commission on Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament. She is currently a member of the Asia Pacific Leadership Network, executive advisor of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation and distinguished fellow at the Tokyo Foundation.

Hon. Naoki Kazama

The Honorable Naoki Kazama is a member of the House of Councillors of Japan. Within his party, Kazama is the director of the Committee on Financial Affairs. He previously held positions as party secretary and was elected as a member of the Niigata Prefecture Assembly. Kazama has also participated in international voluntary activities in Mali in 1997 following the civil war, and in training sponsored by the U.S. State Department on security issues and diplomatic realities of democratic institutions.

He is the former director of BUY.com, the Institute for Environmental and Natural Resources at the University of Wyoming and the Wildlife Heritage Foundation of Wyoming. Before joining Pepsi-Cola Company as a fountain-syrup sales representative, Kendall was a distinguished World War II naval aviator. Throughout his career, he has been active in various cultural, economic and political organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, the National Center for Resource Recovery, the American Ballet Theatre Foundation and the US-USSR Trade and Economic Council. Kendall was inducted into the National Business Hall of Fame in 1987 by Fortune magazine.

He previously served as president of The New School, a university in New York, N.Y., founded on strong democratic ideals and innovative educational practices until 2010. He served for three years in the United States Navy SEAL special forces unit and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1970.
