Statement from Bruce Blair and Matt Brown, Co-Founders of Global Zero:14 July 2015
The agreement between the P5+1 and Iran ensures the number of nuclear-armed countries will not grow to ten. It is a significant breakthrough in global arms control.
It immediately reduces the threat that nuclear weapons will be used. It dramatically rolls back the Iranian nuclear program with strict limits on research and development and deep cuts in centrifuges; blocks all pathways to the development of a nuclear weapon; provides the international community with unparalleled access to verify that Iran will hold up its end of the bargain; and heads off a nuclear arms race in the region. Critically, it can also serve to prevent a potentially disastrous military confrontation in the Middle East.
This deal is good for the security of the United States, its allies and the world. There are no better or more effective alternatives. We urge Congress to move swiftly to support this deal.
